- Think about a time when you lost something and were inexplicably upset about it. That is, the emotion was out of proportion to the thing lost.
- Quickly, write down this story, concentrating on concrete details and immersing the reader in the experience, rather than just summarizing it.
- For example, maybe you lost an old movie ticket and it felt like you had finally lost your ex. You want to transfer the emotions of your breakup onto the ticket.
- Pair&Share. Discuss and see if you can figure out why your partner felt that way about the lost item.
- With this new knowledge, rewrite your story as a How-To Guide — “How to Lose…” — write this in a second person POV. You want to stick to these concrete details you wrote, while also relaying a theme to your audience.
- Your title should start with “How to…”
- Share. Discuss.
